DEM of the lunar dome in the south of Petavius

(a) Result of the registration of the two images used for 3D reconstruction, acquired by P. Lazzarotti (left) and A. Bianconi (right). (b) Reconstructed surface section, rectified to cylindrical projection. (c) Cross-section in east-west direction through the vent and (d) albedo map, derived by two-image photoclinometry. (e) DEM, viewed from the north-east, along with a rendered view of the scene. The vertical scale is 10 times exaggerated. (f) Synthesized view of the region around the vent under a solar altitude of 1.95° (left) along with the corresponding rectified section of an image acquired by C. Fattinnanzi under the same illumination conditions (right). The western flank in the synthesized image cannot display a shadow because this shadow is cast from the outside by the main rim of Petavius, but the shape of the shadow on the eastern flank, which is cast by the dome itself, is in reasonable agreement with its real counterpart.
