DEM of Mons Rümker

The top left image is a section of Lunar Orbiter frame IV-163-H2, showing the lunar dome complex Mons Rümker. The telescopic CCD image to the upper right was taken by K. C. Pau on November 24, 2004, at 22:38 UT with a 250 mm aperture reflector. It has been rectified to simple cylindrical projection. The six examined individual domes are indicated by numbers. The image in the middle shows an oblique view on Mons Rümker acquired from the Apollo 15 command module. The DEM of Mons Rümker (bottom) has been obtained from the telescopic CCD image. It is ten times exaggerated in vertical direction. Qualitatively, it is consistent with the oblique orbital view. With their rather small diameters and spectrally red soils, the examined domes are similar to the domes situated north of the crater Hortensius in Mare Insularum. The very small dome R5 is similar to the cone-like domes encountered in Mare Insularum near the crater Tobias Mayer.
